Perioperative Resourcing

August 12, 2012

There are multiple dimensions to the provision of safe and effective Perioperative Care. In addition to preoperative risk identification and minimisation, and intraoperative ‘defence of homeostasis’ against pharmacologic and surgical interventions, there are post-operative dimensions identified at a recent meeting by Professor David Story, Austin Health, Melbourne as:

  1. Pain management
  2. Surgical site management
  3. General medical management
  4. Rehabilitation, and
  5. Resuscitation.

Review and improvement of ‘The System’ was added by an audience member – the space being targetted by Perioperative Solutions for cost and risk reduction in perioperative care.

Perioperative Solutions has been using a Perioperative Assistant in private healthcare to augment preanaesthesia assessment and postanaesthesia care and audit. The role compements existing staff and processes, and helps better personalise perioperative care.
